Finding ISP’s in Your Area for Your Best Internet Service

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

To find ISP’s in your area, it is best to go online to provider websites and find out if they reach you.  You can do this by searching your zip code on most websites, and it will tell you what plans are available to you from each provider.  Start with the major providers, AT&T and Verizon, and find out what they have available.  Then compare to your local cable internet company, and local internet and satellite internet providers.  You should compare speed, cost, and promotions.  Many companies will give you premiums such as free months, free wi-fi, free modems. Make sure that these cover the total cost, especially if there is an activation charge or you have to have a minimum contract.  Choose the speed that is right for you and fits your budget.  You will be pleasantly surprised that high speed is very affordable.

How to Compare ISPs in Your Area

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

What do you need to keep in mind when you compare ISPs in your area?  It’s very simple, actually.  After determining availability, compare costs, speed, and convenience of added services.  This way you can determine what is right for you. You’ll want to check your local availability first. Find out if major nationally known ISPs such as Verizon and AT&T are available.  Once you’ve determined availability, then it is easy to compare local service providers with nationally known companies.

When comparing ISPs, check for speed as well as price.  Most people prefer higher speeds because it makes it so much easier to share files, photos, watch streaming videos and download music.  You need to see what is an adequate speed for the money you want to spend.  Also consider if there are hidden charges.  Is there an activation fee?  Do you need to buy a modem?  And finally, will the rebate offset any costs you might incur, or make a contract for a certain period of time worth it?

Finding Information About Internet Service Providers

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

There are many choices in internet service providers, as we’ve said before.  It pays to read blogs, visit websites, and compare providers. Online comparison is easiest, as you have all the information in front of you, and usually the best rebates, promotions, and offers are online.  It’s easy access, and an easy sign up process.

You may be wondering about “internet service providers in my area“.  That can be researched online too. Most service providers have an engine on their sites where you can enter your zip code to see if they reach you, or if only some of their plans reach your neighborhood.  Once you have determined what plans are available to you, then you can begin to compare different offers, plans, and companies, and decide what is best for you?  Is your primary concern speed, cost, or good quality customer service?  For most people it is a combination of all three.  One thing is sure, if your speed is not up to the level of your use of the internet, you’ll be frustrated.  High speed internet is the thing you need for viewing videos, sharing photos, and networking.

Verizon Internet Service - Great Choice!

Thursday, December 17th, 2009

Verizon internet service continues to be popular, and is an excellent choice when bundled with their FIOS option.  With discounted monthly rates, a choice of high speed options, free service for the first six
months for new customers, and other options to choose from, Verizon internet service is a great service at a great price. It’s cheaper than cable, and just as fast, maybe even faster in some areas.  The selection of low cost landline and television bundles with FIOS is more cost effective than most cable bundles or ATT’s bundled services with satellite providers, and the television channel selection is unmatched in value.  Check out all the latest specials on Verizon internet service.

U.S. High Speed ISP Providers Lag Behind The World

Monday, July 7th, 2008

The latest news about High Speed Internet Providers is going from bad to worse. US broadband providers are proposing putting a cap on the bandwidth that consumers can use as well as increasing prices. The problem arises with people that abuse the amount of bandwidth they have and not the entire consumer base. So the solution should be target the mis-use not the general population. Furthermore, broadband providers should focus on increasing the speed that is being offered so that we can start competing with the rest of the world. In Korea and Japan, broadband costs one tenth of the price and offers speeds up to 100 Mbps. So lets focus on what would give the US a fair competitive field instead of trying to make an extra dollar by stifling or productivity.

High Speed Rocks — Don’t Settle For Anything Less Even If The Provider Has Specials

Monday, March 10th, 2008

Whether you are scouring the web for specials from cable providers like Comcast or DSL services like Verizon, or looking for a web host, one thing you will want to keep in mind is their reputation for not having downtime and their reputation for technical support. I recently had one of the worst experiences with a web host company. Their tech support is virtually non existent. When you respond to an email requesting more information and they respond the next three times with the same email, something is definitely wrong. When you call and they don’t have the technical knowledge to solve your problem, every single time, so they open an email ticket, you are back to square one. So I decided to move this blog from Ipower to hostrocket. Why and what does this have to do with speed. Well considering my blog is about everything high speed, my readers should expect pages to load in an instant instead of a 10 count. The speed at which their system was communicating with the database was unacceptable and it took over 10 days for them to tell me that the speed was acceptable to them. See Yah! It took me less than 1 hour to sign up for a new host, redirect my DNS, configure passwords/permissions, install an SQL database, Install my blog and repost historical posts. Oh yeah, and write this post. Speed is everything, don’t settle for anything less with your hosts and providers.

Are you getting the maximum speed from your ISP?

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

If you are running Windows XP or 2000, the chances are that you may not be optimized for maximum speed while trying to surf the net. The reason being is that these two platforms are built on NT technology which is primarily configured for networking purposes not for long range communication across external servers on the web. In order to take advantage of the speed your high speed ISPs are giving you, you need to change some registry files and TCP settings. But before venturing out for this, be sure to make a backup. There are many resources out there so try Googleing “speeding up your computer.”
