Internet providers in my area can really make you think, because there’s so much to choose from these days – fiber optic, mobile wireless, cable and DSL. But no matter which one you choose, knowing your level of internet usage is crucial. This can help ensure that you are getting enough bandwidth and don’t exceed your monthly limit, which can result in more charges. The plans you browse should be clear about which method they use in order to connect you to the internet. Remember to read the fine print before you sign up, so you know exactly what’s included in your monthly plan. A lot of broadband contracts run for two years, so it’s important to be clear on what is and isn’t included each month.

Wireless internet service in Illinois is now faster than ever before. A new cell site was activated at Northern Illinois University recently which will not only greatly improve the coverage of the university’s psychology, computer and engineering buildings, but also beyond to include nearby residential areas. The new site also includes a backup generator in the event of an emergency situation. Customers everywhere are relying on their mobile devices to communicate with one another these days, with that number on a steady rise. Better mobile coverage means that Illinois customers will be able to use all wireless features including internet access, emailing of pictures and videos, and downloading media in the form of games and ringtones. Depending on where you live, you might have many choices for internet providers. But a fast broadband connection can allow you to complete a lot of tasks online that you used to do physically. For example, instead of going to the supermarket to buy groceries, you can complete your grocery shopping online. That saves you gas money and driving time, for a start. And since you’re not in a physical store, you probably won’t be tempted to put all those unnecessary treats into your basket, which will save you money – and calories! If you walk or drive to the bank in order to take care of your finances, with internet banking you can do it all in the comfort of your own home. You won’t have to line up at the teller’s window, either! These are just two of the everyday tasks the internet can handle for you. So if you want to get a broadband connection, why not start looking at plans today?

If you’re a customer with the former Qwest DSL, prepare yourself for limits on your internet service. The CenturyLink web site now contains a new addition to its EUP (Excessive Use Policy) that states there will be a 150 GB cap on 1.5 Mbps connections or slower, and a 250GB cap on 1.5Mbps connections or faster. But as yet, there don’t seem to be any plans for those who consistently go over the caps. Although repeat offenders may be disconnected from service. According to the site, subscribers who violate the cap will be contacted via e-mail or web message via their browser and then it will be suggested they upgrade to a faster package. But the company only plans to take into consideration the total bytes being transferred over the offending subscriber’s connection.

Would you like to know where to find internet service providers in my area? Just use a comparison website that compares the ISPs that cover your location. Type in your city or even zip code and in a second or two, you’ll receive a list of ISPs and their current plans. You’ll also see at a glance what kind of broadband connection is available in your neighborhood – you may be able to choose from DSL, cable, fiber optics or mobile wireless. Remember to factor the monthly fee into your budget, and choose your speed and download limit wisely. If your speed isn’t fast enough and you want to watch streaming movies, then you may feel frustrated. And if your download limit isn’t large enough, you may be charged an extra fee if you exceed it during the month.

Verizon internet service will be taking the residential connection to a new level, possibly as soon as the fourth quarter. The company says that its new national rollout of a fixed broadband LTE voice and data package will be powered by a ‘cantenna’, a round antenna that looks like a can, already deployed with DirecTV. The company expects that this method of delivering home broadband will challenge the offerings of other major internet providers, as this would present a viable solution to those living in rural areas. The service would allow customers to get online via the fixed antenna with a Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection, and would be an alternative to cable and DSL. The antenna is said to be far more efficient than connections needing a MiFi card or dongle.

You read it right; your TV could soon be wireless if you are an AT&T internet service customer. That’s because the company’s U-Verse branch recently announced that it will be going wireless. The announcement comes as part of an effort to trim its time and cost to install the U-Verse service. New set-top boxes will take advantage of existing Wi-Fi connections in the home to obtain television programming; all that will be needed is to plug in your set and connect the box. Using internet technology to deliver TV programming will make it much easier for the company to transmit the signal wirelessly. Up to two of the set top boxes can be supported by a home’s hotspot. The boxes will be available beginning Monday, October 31 for a $49 one-time fee and $7 monthly rental fee thereafter.

November 17th marks the day that Verizon Internet Service expands its 4G LTE network to more markets than ever before. Verizon Wireless will be available on that day to 178 markets in the United States, including availability in 22 new cities and network expansion in other areas. Currently, there are 13 devices sold by the company that are enabled with 4G LTE, including the Motorola XOOM and the Pantech Breakout. The ambitious growth plan acknowledges the potential impact of 4G LTE on the lives of customers, and will provide them with the ability to enjoy the blazing fast speeds both at home and where ever they may travel. Average data rates of the new and upgraded networks should be from 5 to 12 megabits per second.

When you’re looking for high speed internet
for your business, your first considerations may be DSL or cable, simply because they are the two most common types of internet service available. But they do have their limitations. First of all, they’re designed more for residential customers, with bandwidth not being guaranteed and limited upload speeds. As well, peak usage times can cause long slowdowns in a residential connection. If you are running a business that requires optimal access to the internet at any time of day, you might want to consider a T1 line. This direct connection from an ISP to your business, and can reach upload and download speeds of up to 1.5 Mbps with no upload limit or shared bandwidth. This eliminates the crowding and slowdowns that can occur with connections at the neighbourhood level.

When we moved to our home seven years ago, I only had one choice when it came to an internet service provider. I stayed with that company until five months ago when I finally became fed up with how the connection speed would slow down each evening. Not only that, I frequently would be in the middle of a project, and Bang! I was kicked off the internet! I did a search and found a website that allowed me to look at all of the internet providers in my area in a side-by-side comparison. I even had many of my questions answered about the benefit of one features over another. I made a switch in my service provider and I am now back up and running without a single glitch over the past five months!

A recent Sandvine study into global internet phenomena has revealed high usage of the internet between eight and ten P.M. in the United States, 20% of which can be attributed to the watching of streaming video via the Netflix company. This concerns broadband internet providers, who are worried about being able to continue to provide their customers with uninterrupted service should this trend continue. One proposed solution involves asking internet users to contain their activity to off-peak hours, which would free up bandwidth. This trend can also be seen with mobile internet, such as the use of 3 and 4G phones, which may make the off-peak solution more difficult to execute. Peer-to-peer traffic is also increasing, which will place even more demand on upstream bandwidth.

It’s April Fools Day, and the folks at Google played a little joke. Just for today, they have an announcement up that they had changed their name from Google to Topeka. Now, this does not mean that Topeka has any advantage among the cities vying to be among the chosen for Google’s new fiber optic network. It just means that Google for today has been telling people to Topeka it. This is a twist on Topeka’s renaming itself “Google” in order to become a beta test ground for the fiber optic network. It’s nice to know that the people who have revolutionized access to all sorts of information have a sense of humor!
