How To Save With Verizon Internet Service

January 4th, 2012

Getting a new internet connection is much easier these days. When you go online, you can check out all of the latest offers from every ISP near you. A good example is Verizon internet service, a company which offers fiber optic internet, a connection that can reach speeds of up to 15 Mbps. This speed can handle even the most graphics-intensive online gaming experiences because it’s a dedicated connection whose signal travels through hair-thin glass fibers. The online deals can differ from time to time, but the best way to stay on top of the latest offers from all ISPs near you is to go online and use a quality comparison site to see what all companies are offering at the same time.

Which Of The Best Internet Providers Is Right For You?

January 2nd, 2012

If you’re getting ready to move or are thinking about your options for an internet connection, you may be wondering about the best internet providers in your area. But the best companies will really depend on several things, including your budget. For instance, you may view an ISP who offers fast speeds at an affordable price to be the best one for you. Or maybe you’re willing to pay a little more for internet from a company that’s well-known. What you end up choosing will ultimately depend on how you use the internet and how much you can afford to spend each month. Once you figure out these two aspects, then comparing companies online using a quality resource is your next step. And you can save even more money if you sign up online, as many ISPs offer special discounts to online subscribers.

DSL Providers And Other Companies In The U.K. Want To Force Users To Block Web Sites

December 16th, 2011

DSL providers in the U.K., along with other internet service companies have decided that they will no longer leave the blocking of controversial web sites up to their customers, thanks to family advocate Reg Bailey who is at the core of this recent decision. Internet companies will ask their customers which sites they wish to access prior to signing up for service, a move that some say only advocates censorship online. But the internet companies stance is that the move will force families to genuinely consider what sites their children may be visiting. The issue lies in the parental blocks available to families via ISPs. While effective as a means of protection, the blocks only work if they are turned on by the parents themselves, which is allegedly not occurring.

China Enjoying Exponential Increase In High Speed Internet Use

December 12th, 2011

North Americans certainly relish their internet connections. But in China, where the largest online population in the world resides, it was recently reported by the Xinhua news agency that internet connections have topped 500 million, 15 million of which joined in the last 6 months alone. Some say this increase is due to the realization that the internet offers a forum where concerns and opinions about the social and political state of affairs can be shared. But Beijing officials worry that the internet could be used to plan and execute any manner of social unrest, and have increased their surveillance of the internet in recent years, even blocking content which is deemed to be politically sensitive. But microblogs which work much in the same way like our Twitter have served to provide a different forum for expression.

CenturyLink Model Is Working Well In Former Qwest Internet Territory

December 1st, 2011

Urban markets appear to be responding favourably to former Qwest internet territories where the new CenturyLink operating model is now in place. The company’s model involves decision-making on a local level. In some areas, it is those in mid-level management positions who are making key product decisions and basing them on local competition. It was in April of this year when CenturyLink acquired Qwest for $24 billion in assumed debt and stock. The company now owns 14.8 million land lines in 37 states. There was some concern with its recently-released third-quarter profit reports, which showed a drop of 40%. But the company says that the profit decline was due to increased operating expenses after its Qwest and network operator Savvis acquisitions. And it appears that this decline in profit doesn’t have investors worried, as the company’s stock was up almost 4% the day after the profit report release.

Which Internet Providers Can Offer You The Most Convenience?

November 29th, 2011

Depending on where you live, you might have many choices for internet providers. But a fast broadband connection can allow you to complete a lot of tasks online that you used to do physically. For example, instead of going to the supermarket to buy groceries, you can complete your grocery shopping online. That saves you gas money and driving time, for a start. And since you’re not in a physical store, you probably won’t be tempted to put all those unnecessary treats into your basket, which will save you money – and calories! If you walk or drive to the bank in order to take care of your finances, with internet banking you can do it all in the comfort of your own home. You won’t have to line up at the teller’s window, either! These are just two of the everyday tasks the internet can handle for you. So if you want to get a broadband connection, why not start looking at plans today?

The CenturyLink web site  now contains a new addition to its EUP (Excessive Use Policy) that states there will be a 150 GB cap on 1.5 Mbps connections or slower, and a 250GB cap on 1.5Mbps connections or faster. But as yet, there don’t seem to be any plans for those who consistently go over the caps. Although repeat offenders may be disconnected from service. According to the site, subscribers who violate the cap will be contacted via e-mail or web message via their browser and then it will be suggested they upgrade to a faster package. But the company only plans to take into consideration the total bytes being transferred over the offending subscriber’s connection.

Verizon internet service will be taking the residential connection to a new level, possibly as soon as the fourth quarter. The company says that its new national rollout of a fixed broadband LTE voice and data package will be powered by a ‘cantenna’, a round antenna that looks like a can, already deployed with DirecTV. The company expects that this method of delivering home broadband will challenge the offerings of other major internet providers, as this would present a viable solution to those living in rural areas. The service would allow customers to get online via the fixed antenna with a Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection, and would be an alternative to cable and DSL. The antenna is said to be far more efficient than connections needing a MiFi card or dongle.
